Stopping to Smell the Roses

Today I’m going to start a little experiment with my blog. I want to take take my blog to the street (sort of speak).

This should be a social (media) blog as much as anything else, so I’d like to invite you to be part of my daily routine of walking to the office and back. It’s only a 5 minute walk, but the scenery still varied (for inner city) and I want to share it with everybody.

We must remember that even in our daily routine, we need to stop to smell the roses sometimes.

So here’s the deal: I’m going to snap a photo with my iPhone every day for the next 60 days either going to the office or returning home and post to a special part of this blog.

Obviously I’m not going to the office every day, so if I’m not working (or not working at the office), I’m sure to walk somewhere else and I’ll snap a photo of that.

I got this idea for a side-theme of the blog the other day when I took a photo and posted it on Twitter and was surprised at the positive reaction it got. I actually appreciate it more now as I walk past every day.

So here’s the first photo in this photo series called “Taking It to the Streets”.

I’ll post the photos on my Flickr account and add a link to the daily photos on the right side of the blog.

So are there any roses to smell on your way to work? Any hidden oasis? Does the light fall differently on a building one day? Then take a photo and post it here or link to it. I’d love to see it.

Getting Started

The hardest part about starting anything is getting started. As simple as it sounds, it’s still that first step that’s the hardest. No matter the size of the task, if you made up an excuse not to do it today, chances are that you’ll make another excuse not to do it tomorrow either. Worst thing is that often we really want to start, but it just doesn’t happen.

The first step to succes is simply:

Make a commitment to act!

Make this commitment to yourself. Set yourself a goal and act on it today. Make this commitment to yourself. Set yourself a goal and act on it today. It doesn’t have be huge – just a step in the right direction towards achieving bigger aims. Perhaps you need to learn the rules for playing party poker, or contact someone who might be able to help you with your chosen project? It might be an ongoing commitment, such as training for a marathon event, or planning to read a certain number of books during a given time frame. Whatever you need to do to get started, now is the time to do it.

I will make the following commitment to myself today:

“For the next 30 days, I will write a new blog post every day.”

I will do this. No excuses.
